Sir Keegan is essentially a skeleton in plate armor, though his movements are surer than most skeletons, and he seems unusually expressive for a collection of bones.
Sir Keegan is currently a suffering soul residing forever in his crypt in the Shadowfell Keep. Over two hundred years ago, as Comamnder of Cassan’s Keep, he fell under the foul influence of the rift deep in the earth, and slaughtered his family and many of the men under his command. Eventually he was driven into a crypt and sealed there by the remnants of his force, who then abandoned the Keep as cursed. Sir Keegan has been there ever since, tormented by the knowledge of his heinous crimes.
Sir Keegan before his death
To aid Admiral Wolverine Lightning bolt in their quest against Kalarel he gifted the party with his magical longsword Aecris, in the hopes that at least the blade might be redeemed if if he could not be.
After the rift closed the party found Sir Keegan’s skeletal remains finally at rest for good.
“I am Sir Keegan. I was commander here in Shadowfell Keep. It was my charge to keep the rift sealed, lest Orcus’s unholy powers once again seep into the world. But I failed in my responsibility. I allowed the influence to the Shadow Rift and my knowledge of the crumbling empire to distract me from my faith and my oath. The corruption that lies on the other side of the rift touched me and triggered disaster.
“Orcus’s vile tainst soaked through the rift and into my dreams. A madness overcame me. I was possessed! In a rage, I drew my sword and slew my own wife and children. From that bloody deed I moved outward, attacking my captains killing them one by one even at they stared in shock. Finally, the alarm went up, and what remained of my legion banded together against me. In the midst of my rage, I realized I couldn’t best them all, so I fled into the crypts to hide from their vengance. Only then did the madness life.
“When I realized what I had done, I dispaired. I had killed my love and broken my oath. More than that, I had done so with Aecris, the sword given to me by King Elidyr upon my knighting. My soldiers sealed the passage and trapped me here, a fitting place to spend eternity.
“Noble warriors, I am past redemption. But perhaps I can grant you aid. I cannot leave this crypt, but Aecris can. I give you this weapon that you might purge Shadowfell Keep of those who work to reopen the rift. Seek Bahamut’s boon at the altars outside and perhaps he too will grant you aid.“
